EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

The effects of trauma impact countless people every day. Unfortunately, people who have experienced trauma often feel hesitant to seek counseling, fearing they will have to give a specific narrative of their trauma, recounting every detail. This can feel overwhelming, and often leaves a person feeling retraumatized.

Fortunately, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) is an effective evidenced-based trauma treatment that does not require a person to retell their trauma story. Instead, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (eye movement or tapping) while the person thinks about a specific target or traumatizing memory, which helps to reconsolidate that memory and reduce the distress associated with it.

EMDR is also effective in treating anxiety, depression, and helping to shift negative core beliefs to more adaptive beliefs.
